Examining Conductive Education: Linking Science, Theory, and Intervention

Roberta O’Shea, PT, DPT, PhD, Mary Jones, PT, MPT, CLT, NCS, DhS, and Katie Lightfoot, BS

A journal article, published in August 2020 in the Archives of Rehabilitation Research and Clinical Translation examines the ways in which conductive education links science, theory, and intervention. The article breaks down how CE combines motor control and motor learning theories with concepts including rhythmic intention, task series, and low-tech equipment for movement re-education to rebuild neurological pathways for movement. CE is an intensive neuromotor rehabilitation approach that has a focus of incorporating the individual, the task, and the environment to obtain new levels of motor control.
